Anuradha Koirala, won the CNN Hero of the Year 2010 Award. Annually CNN selects ten people around the world and names one as and the CNN's Hero of the Year.

Koirala was chosen by the public in an online poll that ran for eight weeks on CNN.com. The results were revealed by CNN's Anderson Cooper at the conclusion of the fourth annual "CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute."

Koirala, who runs Maiti Nepal, is known for her mission to curb the women trafficking from Nepal to the Indian sex industry, and the rescue and rehabilitation of over 12,000 victims.

Maiti Nepal aims at protecting Nepali girls and women from crimes like domestic violence, trafficking for flesh trade, child prostitution, child labour and various forms of exploitation and torture.Formed in 1993, the social organisation has been fighting the social evils inflicted upon the female populace, and highlighting trafficking issue with its strong advocacy from the local to national and international levels.

“The award is but yours and every single Nepali here in home and abroad deserves this. It is an outcome of the solidarity you have demonstrated against the worst form of trafficking in human, domestic violence and social evils,” said Koirala. “This honour, I think, has added more responsibility on my shoulders to live up to the expectations of trafficked women and girls.”
